A grassroots plant nursery and garden-design outfit growing native perennials, wildflowers, and pollinator habitats — one slightly-crooked stem at a time.
It started with a heat mat, a tray of elecampane, and a stubborn idea: that native plants belong in every yard — not just the big restored prairies. We germinate everything from seed ourselves. Elecampane and heliopsis and echinacea for the perennial beds. Dahlias, celosia, zinnias, strawflower, and amaranth for the cut flower garden. Our first transaction was giving a flat of starts away to friends. We figured it was a fine place to begin.
We're Andrea and Brian — a small-batch growing operation, one greenhouse, a few dogs who supervise, and the occasional friend who shows up for coffee and stays for the weeding. Come spring we're elbows-deep in seedlings and fresh potting mix. Come fall we're putting the beds to sleep and already dreaming about next year's seed list.
We don't spray. We build our own potting mix — peat, perlite, worm castings, a little lobster and kelp meal for nitrogen. We compost what breaks down and let the rest go to seed. We're not certified anything. Our spines are, admittedly, a little crooked from all the bending.
We run a small backyard nursery on the North Shore of Long Island — Port Jefferson area. We're open weekends through the growing season, but honestly the best way to visit is to reach out first. We'll point you in the right direction.
